According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Marvin listed their date of separation as Jan. 12 — the same day the son of the late Motown singer was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at his estranged wife.
Marvin cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split and also asked the court not to grant his wife any spousal support.
Although Marvin and Wendy have no children together, he welcomed his first son Marvin IV in 1995, and his second son, Dylan, in 2000.
The filing comes months after the longtime couple was involved in a domestic violence dispute.
Wendy sought court-ordered protection from Marvin after he allegedly physically assaulted her and his cousin during a heated exchange in January, according to TMZ.
In fact, Wendy claimed her estranged husband grabbed her by the neck and lifted her off the ground, only stopping when the cousin stepped in.
However, this allegedly led Marvin to physically attack both women before threatening them with a gun.
When cops arrived at his Calabasas home, Marvin fled the scene — leaving two firearms inside the home.
However, the 57-year-old turned himself in the following day and was booked on misdemeanor domestic violence and felony assault with deadly weapon charges.
Marvin, who is the adopted son of the late Marvin Gaye and his late wife Anna Gordy Gaye, was later released on a $50,000 bond.
Anna’s niece, Denise Gordy, had Marvin III when she was just 16 but gave him up after the couple struggled to conceive.
However, the Motown master was tragically murdered by his father in 1984 while trying to break up a domestic dispute between his parents — the day before his 45th birthday.
