Mark Williams Hillariously Reacts to the Lakers’ Playoff Loss

At the 2025 NBA trade deadline, Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams was scheduled to be the last piece of the Los Angeles Lakers’ puzzle. However, his departure to Hollywood was abruptly canceled, leaving no time to locate a replacement.

Lakers coach JJ Redick and general manager Rob Pelinka had Williams tagged as the player who might cover the Davis-sized frontcourt void after moving All-Star center Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in the historic Luka Doncic trade.

Doncic wanted a lob threat offensively, and in a Western Conference full of players like Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, size would be important on defense come playoff time.

Williams had to stir things up on social media from home after Gobert’s historic effort on Wednesday night destroyed the Lakers’ season. Gobert’s 27 points and 24 rebounds in the 103-96 decisive victory in Game 5 ended Los Angeles’ 4-1 series loss to Minnesota in the opening round.

Mark Williams’ reaction to the Lakers’ loss goes viral

Fans frequently questioned Redick about why he didn’t start 7-foot center Jaxson Hayes when Gobert controlled the paint, but the coach said that he thought he had no other viable options.

Following the heartbreaking loss, Williams, who ended the season with the Hornets 19-63, didn’t need to say anything to mock the Lakers on various social media sites.

In the first hour following the Lakers’ defeat, the lone smiling emoji he shared on X garnered over 1.5 million views, 30,000 likes, and 2,000 comments.

In the meantime, he shared a timeless joke on his Instagram story that alludes to going to the burial of one’s biggest hater. The Lakers wanted him in the trade, which only fell through because Williams failed a medical exam, so it’s difficult to see why they were against him.

Although it will never be known if he was able to stop Gobert in the playoffs, it is evident that Williams still harbors some resentment about his failure to reach Los Angeles.
