Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’ Inducted Into Library Of Congress’ Recording Registry

Mariah Carey may have just celebrated her 54th birthday anniversary on March 27, but weeks later the gifts continue to roll in.

Hop inside to find out the news the diva recently unwrapped from the esteemed Library Of Congress!

Just months after Carey’s enduring holiday classic, ‘All I Want for Christmas is You,’ was crowned one of the three best-selling female songs of all-time in the United States (a title shared with Miley Cyrus’ ‘Party in the USA’ and Katy Perry‘s ‘FireWork’), the yuletide favorite recently enjoyed another historic feat: induction into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.

Included in a list of 25 iconic songs and albums added to the national recording registry this year (like Madonna‘s 1984 sophomore album, ‘Like a Virgin,’ and Queen Latifah‘s 1989 debut album, ‘All Hail the Queen’), ‘All I Want’ – the first-ever Diamond-certified holiday single – makes history as the first female Christmas song ever enlisted in the prestigious capsule.
In fact, among the hundreds of titles in the registry overall, less than 10 are holiday-centric (unforgettable festive hits like Bing Crosby‘s ‘White Christmas’ and Nat King Cole‘s The Christmas Song’ are on that exclusive list).

“I’m honored beyond belief! I definitely did not even imagine this would happen when writing and recording this song! Thank you so much Ms. Hayden and the @thelibraryofcongress,” Carey tweeted Wednesday (April 12) in response to the news.

Check out the video below to see what else she said about the honor.
