The opportunity to repeat history was declined by LeBron James and his son, Bronny James. According to league source Chris Haynes, the two chose not to participate in the 2025 Kia Skills Challenge at NBA All-Star weekend. They would have participated in the Skills Challenge as the first father-son team.
The younger James declined an offer to play with the Rising Stars as a G League player, according to the report. This year’s NBA All-Star weekend will take place in San Francisco, the home of the Golden State Warriors.
In the Lakers’ season opener, the Jameses created history by being the first father and son to play together in an NBA game.
Bronny James, a USC graduate, was chosen by Los Angeles with the 55th overall choice in the 2024 NBA Draft. This season, he has made 11 NBA appearances, averaging just 2.3 minutes. He has fluctuated between the South Bay Lakers, their G League team, and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The younger James has averaged 13.4 points, 3.9 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 36.6/21.2/66.7 in seven G League games, playing 26.9 minutes per game.
James, 40, is shooting 51.3/39.8/76.3 and averaging 23.7 points, 9.0 assists, and 7.5 rebounds per game. On Thursday, he received his record 21st All-Star selection.
The Lakers were 23-18 going into their game against the Boston Celtics on Thursday night, which would have earned them the sixth spot in the Western Conference.
