In late July, musician Javaughn Young-White – the father of Kehlani‘s daughter Adeya – rocked the Web when he filed for full custody of their child with shocking claims the singer was endangering the young girl’s safety due to her involvement in a cult.
Quickly taking to social media to deny the allegations, the GRAMMY-nominated star branded Young-White’s allegations “incredibly hurtful, inaccurate, inappropriate, and simply untrue.”
And while he followed by slamming the news media for sensationalizing aspects of the wording of his original filing (with some outlets even suggesting he meant “sex cult” instead of “religious cult”), the guitarist took to social media on Friday (August 9) to strum up another statement regarding the hoopla caused by the story.
More inside.
Taking to Instagram early Friday morning, Javaughn waxed honest about his disapproval of language that was included in his original child custody filing.
“These documents contained general recollections from my initial consultation with my aforementioned rep,” Young-White wrote to his 87,500 followers after saying the documents were “submitted without my approval.” “They were filed with choice language I didn’t okay. I regret they were included.”
Later in the message, he alleges the intel for his accusations of cult-like activity against Kehlani’s former church came from a party that had their own agenda against it and led him to be “deeply distressed about the direct care” of Adeya.
And while he asserts the “explicit wording” of the statement about the religious organization didn’t get his stamp of approval either, the guitarist also maintains that the reported happenings weren’t the only issues that led to his filing.
“There are other concerns that encourage me to prioritize issues of custody and documentation,” he relayed without detailing what said “concerns” were.
He closed the new statement by apologizing to the church for the backlash that ensued after the “cult” claims first hit the Web.
“As a father, I could never have anticipated that such serious allegations would be so careless,” he shared before saying, “..I deeply regret and apologize for any role I played in perpetuating these claims. I hope [the church and its] affected members receive just restoration.”
He ended the message by indicating intent to continue pursuit of his child’s wellbeing, but didn’t expressly state desire to withdraw his endeavors for full custody.
At the time of this report, Kehlani has not responded to Javaughn’s latest statement.
