Lifetime‘s much-discussed Wendy Williams documentary can air as planned, a judge has ruled.

As reported, the court-appointed legal guardian for the TV host filed a lawsuit against Lifetime’s parent network A+E; along with this, a restraining order was filed in a bid to block the broadcast of the two-part special.

The move came in tandem with the disclosure from Williams’ care team that the 59-year-old has been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.

Today (February 23) in the New York Appeals Court, Appellate Justice Peter Moulton declared that the temporary restraining order the guardian sought would be an “impermissible prior restraint on speech that violates the First Amendment of the Constitution.”

A hearing on further matters has been set for February 27.

Per the star’s family, filming for ‘Where is Wendy Williams?’ began as a project chronicling her comeback after the end of her talk show in 2022.

However, when her health issues became particularly apparent and contact was lost when external guardianship was appointed, the documentary pivoted its focus.

Speaking after the judge’s ruling, a rep for Lifetime said in a statement:

“Lifetime appeared in court today, and the documentary Where is Wendy Williams? will air this weekend as planned.”
