The tragic discovery of Janis Timma‘s lifeless body on the stairs of a Moscow apartment building has left the Latvian basketball community in despair. Tragically, preliminary investigations have determined that the cause of death was suicide, which has caused great sadness among both players and fans.
Timma has established himself in the NBA at 32, playing for prestigious clubs like the Orlando Magic and Zenit Saint Petersburg. There were obstacles in his path to fame, especially after he controversially chose to perform in Russia while the war in Ukraine was still raging.
Timma bravely handled the strong response by saying: “This is my decision, and I see nothing wrong with it. I play basketball and live my own life.”
Timma’s death occurred on the same day as the birthday of his ex-wife, Ukrainian singer Anna Sedokova, whom he married in 2020 but divorced earlier this year, adding to the sadness. According to reports, Sedokova left a note on a phone discovered close to Timma.
Sedokova shared her sorrow on Instagram and asked her fans to protect their small child from the devastating news: “I have a child, he is small, and he doesn’t need to know any of this. I just have to protect my child from this information.”
Janis Timma, born in 1992, started playing basketball in Latvia and quickly rose to the top of the European basketball league. He left a lasting and unforgettable legacy in the sport after being selected by the Grizzlies in the 2013 NBA Draft.
