In late 2023, Cher – thanks to her breakout hit ‘DJ Play a Christmas Song‘ – became the first female artist in history to debut a new song on the Hot 100 in six distinct decades.
Just months prior, Madonna – with The Weeknd-led smash ‘Popular‘ – became only the second female act ever to place a previously uncharted song on the all-genre tally across five distinct decades.
This week, the two mega divas were joined in rank by a fellow Pop culture icon: Country Queen Dolly Parton.
Details inside.
Beyonce‘s critically acclaimed ‘Cowboy Carter‘ not only made headlines and history for debuting at #1 on this week’s Billboard 200, but 23 of its 27 tracks landed on the Hot 100.
Standouts among the fray was the Parton-penned ‘Jolene‘ (#7 peak) and Parton-assisted ‘Tyrant.’
Credited as a performer on the latter, the #44 entry of ‘Tyrant’ marks Dolly’s first Hot 100 appearance in nearly two decades following her playing assistant on Brad Paisley‘s 2006 top 40 hit ‘When I Get Where I’m Going’ (#39 peak).
With the inclusion of the Beyonce-led track, Parton has now placed at least one previously uncharted tune on the Hot 100 in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 2020s.
Among all acts over the tally’s nearly 66-year history, only the Cher, The Isley Brothers, Elvis Presley can boast more time of new-song placements (six decades each).
