Ex Vols QB Nico Iamaleava Is Moving to UCLA

Nico Iamaleava revealed he was going to UCLA a week after Tennessee confirmed the quarterback who led the Volunteers to the College Football Playoffs the previous season was leaving the team.

On Sunday, Iamaleava shared a photo of himself on Instagram wearing a UCLA uniform. According to Iamaleava’s post: “My journey at UT has come to an end,”  “This decision was incredibly difficult, and truthfully, not something I expected to make this soon. But I trust God’s timing, and I believe He’s leading me where I need to be. Even though, this chapter is ending, a new chapter has begun and I am committed to UCLA!”

Josh Heupel, the coach of Tennessee, had hinted that Iamaleava would no longer be playing for the Volunteers during their spring game on April 12. According to the coach, Heupel realized the Vols would not be able to use Iamaleava going forward when the quarterback was a “no show” the morning before and did not communicate with him.

Heupel refused to elaborate on any conversations he had with Iamaleava and his aides. Several sources claimed that after leading Tennessee to its first playoff berth, Iamaleava was requesting a significant increase in his name, image, and likeness pay.
