Dwyane Wade Says He Was Forced to Introduce Himself to Ed Sheeran by Gabrielle Union

One of the most prosperous names in NBA history is Dwyane Wade. He is a three-time champion, Finals MVP, and Hall of Famer who has always maintained his composure and dignity both on and off the court. And at the 2024 Met Gala, that was clearly visible.

Wade encountered Ed Sheeran, one of his all-time favorite musicians, on the red carpet of the event, which included celebrities from throughout the United States and the world.

During a recent Time Out episode, the former Miami Heat player recollected the encounter.

Wade was standing next to his wife, Gabrielle Union, who was conducting an interview, when Sheeran came up. But Wade froze when he saw the Brit. Wade, a longtime fan of Sheeran’s music, was too hesitant to approach him, but Union saw her husband’s hesitancy and took advantage of the opportunity.

Union told the reporters who were speaking to her, and they promptly passed the word on to Sheeran, who was still nearby: “He loves Ed Sheeran,”

When the 34-year-old approached Wade, a nice and innocent moment was caught on camera. Wade said it was all about creating memories. Wade had never been the kind to look for celebrity moments or pursue fame, but this one seemed different. He stated:

“You don’t know who’s going to be at the Met Gala. So, I didn’t expect to see him. I kind of was just looking, like, ‘Oh sh*t, that’s Ed Sheeran.’ My wife put me on blast, and I got a chance to have my moment…All these moments are going to become memories eventually.”

The former shooting guard also acknowledged that he would not have had the opportunity to meet someone he genuinely admired if it weren’t for Union. The two have remained in contact because of her, and Sheeran even asked Wade to attend one of his shows.
