Rolling Stone has found itself on the bad side of fans of ‘Bad‘ icon Michael Jackson yet again.
Barely four months after crowning the King of Pop’s last album – 2001’s ‘Invincible‘ – one of the “most disappointing albums of all time,” they’ve now taken aim at his magnum opus ‘Thriller.’
See how inside.
Recently taking to press with the article ‘50 Terrible Songs from Great Albums,’ the staff listed what they deemed the worst contributions to some of music history’s most memorable bodies of work including projects from The Beatles, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Queen of Pop Madonna, and more.
Because ‘Thriller’ is regarded as one of the greatest LPs ever produced for its front-to-back listenability, RS drew shock for listing its fan-favorite ballad ‘Lady in My Life‘ at #20 on their ranking.
“If Michael Jackson had just capped off ‘Thriller’ with track eight instead of track nine, he would have created one of the most flawless works in music history. But for reasons that are hard to fathom, he tacked ‘The Lady in My Life’ onto the end,” they wrote. “He did deliver a strong vocal, but it’s in service of a song that has no business on the same album as ‘Billie Jean,’ ‘Beat It,’ ‘Human Nature,’ ‘Thriller,’ and ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Something.'”
Igniting fury among Jackson’s fans, thousands of them took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday (February 24) to not only slam the publication but also argue which track from the iconic LP (if any) was better suited for the title of ‘most terrible song.’
Many pointed to the Paul McCartney-assisted ‘Girl Is Mine‘ as the real answer.
However, tell us…
Your thoughts?
