DaBaby Weighs In on Being “Canceled” After Homophobic Drama: “Somebody Pressed a Button”

DaBaby once looked to have the world at his feet.

Indeed, the rapper paired inescapable anthems with an omnipresence on the live circuit.

However, it was the latter that ground his ascend to an abrupt half after the star made homophobic remarks while performing at Rolling Loud Miami in 2021.

A blazing backlash from fans, fellow artists, and brands followed, which was only intensified by the MC’s seeming reluctance to acknowledge the severity of his statements. Apologies materialized, but, for many, it was deemed too little too late.

Now, as he attempts to navigate his way back to the upper reach of the charts with his new project ‘How TF Is This A Mixtape?,’ he’s addressing the drama. And he’s claiming that “somebody pressed a button.”

Full story below…

Appearing on The Breakfast Club, DaBaby was quizzed on “cancel culture” and if it affected his career in the wake of the chaos. The Cleveland native quipped:

“That sh*t is controlled. Somebody pressed a button. And I now have to navigate my way through that.”

Elsewhere, he revealed:

“I was falling out of love with the art of creating and putting out of music because of the politics and everything else that comes with it. I was like ‘this ain’t something I even enjoy doing at this point.’ I go from being an artist to a politician overnight. I ain’t ever been no politician. that ain’t even my brand. I’ve always been that n***a that always [had people like] ‘did that n***a just say that?'”

Hmm.

There was no measured mention of the other dramas that have plagued DaBaby’s public perception. Namely the melée between him and his baby mother DaniLeigh (the worst of which saw him ejecting her from a residence on Instagram Live and brawling with her brother at a bowling alley).
