Chart Check [Hot 100]: The Weeknd Ties Chris Brown for Most Top 40 Hits Among ALL Male Vocalists This Century

Thanks to the warm reception of his long-awaited ‘Residuals‘ music video in late January, Chris Brown saw the 11:11 (Deluxe)‘-housed single soar to a new peak of #40 on the Billboard Hot 100.

A historic feat at the time, the placement nabbed Brown the 53rd top 40 hit of his career and broke a tie with The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) for most entries to the chart region among all male singers since 2000.

The celebration for the victory was short-lived, however, as Tesfaye has reclaimed the tie just two weeks later thanks to hits from his chart-topping latest album ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow.’

Thanks to gargantuan streams and physical sales, ‘Tomorrow’ debuted at #1 on the current Billboard 200 with the biggest first-week sales of Abel’s career to date.

What’s more, its success on the album chart is mirrored on its singles counterpart as the Canadian hitmaker landed 14 entries on the updated Hot 100 (12 are new).

And though ‘Cry for Me’ was the only of his new dozen hits to land inside the hitlist’s top 40, that sole placement was enough to give The Weeknd his 53rd print in the chart region.

He now re-ties Brown for the honor of most top 40 hits this century among male singers. On the all-time list, however, both stars sit in third place behind Elvis Presley (81) and Elton John (60).
