More than a decade has passed since Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett got into a heated argument that led to a widely circulated rumor about some trash language regarding Honey Nut Cheerios. We now know more about what really happened when Melo made the decision to be more transparent, even though it took more than ten years.

According to the numerous rumors that have come to light over the years, Kevin Garnett‘s aggressive strategy for trying to distract other players from their game solidly earned him a place on the Mount Rushmore of NBA trash-talkers, alongside Michael Jordan.

To what extent would he go? According to Charlie Villanueva, the Hall of Famer referred to him as a “cancer patient,” and on several instances, both an opponent (Andray Blatche) and a member of his own squad (Glen Davis) came close to tears after taking one of his tongue lashings.

Additionally, some unfounded rumors have circulated over the years, one of which dates back to a January 7, 2013, game between the Celtics and Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

When former Knicks teammate Iman Shumpert joined the 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast, Anthony himself finally decided to provide some further information, becoming the third participant to voice such feelings.

The segment in question begins at approximately 31 minutes. Melo acknowledged that KG had made a reference to him smelling like a particular part of the female anatomy before launching into insults that contained the unidentified “trigger words” that made him furious, but he refused to specify what exactly set him off. He also confirmed that the comment about Honey Nut Cheerios was “never said.”

Considering that Anthony urged Shumpert not to discuss the information he is reportedly privy to, it appears that he has no intention of going out of his way to disclose what was truly spoken. “We’re men now, but at that moment, he really crossed the line,” he added, implying that he wouldn’t be as bothered by it now as he was then.
