LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, when he publicly discussed the NBA media environment and made fun of ESPN’s Brian Windhorst and Stephen A. Smith.
James was blunt, especially with Smith, with whom he had a back-and-forth over Bronny James. Given that he has been covering the Lakers star since he became a high school sensation, the shot at Windhorst was quite unexpected. However, LeBron thought that Windhorst had misinterpreted his motivation for signing with Nike in recent remarks.
“LeBron doesn’t owe me anything, I owe him a lot,” – Windy on the LeBron comments made to @PatMcAfeeShow.

Via ESPN Cleveland, Windhorst expressed his response to James’ remarks and appeared to be amicable:
“LeBron doesn’t owe me anything. I owe him a lot. He has been a great friend to my hometown and my alma mater. That I would stand on. Anything else, I would never say or never stand on. Just know, I met LeBron 25 years ago. And my understanding of LeBron and where people stand in his life has been crystal clear.”
LeBron James has gone after Brian Windhorst and Stephen A. Smith
James has finally made the decision to speak out about what may be the most controversial game coverage in NBA history this season.
One of the best players in history is currently in Los Angeles with LeBron, and the Lakers are a hot issue because they are one of the most valued teams in all of sports. Unfortunately, Smith’s remarks on First Take more than a month ago caused things to spin out of hand.
Relating it to Windhorst, it’s nice that he chose to resolve the issue amicably rather than using it as a PR gimmick. I hope that reasonable conversations can be conducted because NBA coverage is still a sensitive topic for both players and fans.
After LeBron James’ appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday sparked public debate and Stephen A. Smith’s answer later that day, this week became extremely busy for him.
In fact, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver expressed his wish that personal matters should not have been involved in this back-and-forth in a statement. Silver also discussed how it was reported, saying he wished the NBA could have the same level of media attention as other sports.
