14-year-old Miller Gardner died by asphyxia “after a possible intoxication after apparently ingesting some food,” NBC News said. According to the official, Juan Pablo Alvarado Garcia, Miller’s body was discovered in a hotel room on Friday in Manuel Antonio, a well-known tourist location on the nation’s Pacific Coast.

According to him, authorities are awaiting an autopsy and a toxicological analysis, and the reason of death is preliminary.

Miller’s parents said in a statement Sunday that their son passed away after becoming ill, along with some other family members. According to the statement, he passed away quietly while sleeping.

According to the statement: “Miller was a beloved son and brother and we cannot yet comprehend our life without his infectious smile,”  “He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived life to the fullest every single day.”

Gardner was an outfielder who played with the Yankees for 14 seasons. In 2009, a year after his MLB debut, he contributed to the team’s World Series victory.
