Bobby Portis Jr. Of the Bucks Receives a 25-Game Suspension For Failed Drug Test

On Thursday morning, Bobby Portis Jr. received some unfavorable news: the Milwaukee Bucks player has been suspended by the NBA for 25 games without pay for breaking the league’s anti-drug policy.

Minutes ago, the Association released a statement stating that the experienced forward had tested positive for the banned substance Tramadol, a painkiller.

Shams Charania received a statement from Bobby’s representative, Mark Bartelstein, stating that Portis accidentally took the drug because he believed he was taking Toradol.

According to Bartelstein: “Toradol is an approved pain medication that he has used previously and that teams and players use for pain and inflammation at times,”. “Tramadol, however, is not an approved pain medication and was recently added to the banned substance list this past spring.”

According to the statement, one of Portis’s helpers gave him the anti-inflammatory drug, which he was taking to treat an elbow injury he sustained in a fall. He further stated: “This has been incredibly difficult for him,”  “But he will accept this penalty with grace and turn this into a great opportunity to improve and further build his reputation performance in every way.”

The 30-year-old’s house was broken into following a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in November, so this isn’t the first speed bump he’s encountered this season.

After the All-Star break, the Bucks play their first game back on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Clippers. When his team travels to New Orleans to play the Pelicans on April 6, Portis will be able to make a comeback.
