Billboard 200: Jason Derulo’s New Album ‘Nu King’ – The Week’s Third-Highest Debut – Was Certified Gold The Same Day It Was Released

With a nine-year wait separating them from his last LP, 2014’s ‘Everything is 4,’ fans of Pop sensation Jason Derulo‘s apparently couldn’t wait to get their hands on his new album – the February 16-released ‘Nu King.’

A 27-track affair, the new project is loaded with big names like Meghan Trainor, NBA YoungBoy, Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, Ty Dolla $ign, Michael Buble, and more.

Peruse of the Billboard charts and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) logs proved those superstars’ powers combined were just what the doctor ordered.

Jason Derulo’s ‘Nu King’

First-Week Sales (SPS) ≈ 12,000 units

Billboard 200 Debut:  #82

Opening at #82 on the refreshed Billboard 200 to the tune of 12,000 copies sold, ‘King’ was crowned bronze place among the week’s new releases as only Yeat‘s ‘2093‘ (#2) and Jennifer Lopez‘s ‘This Is Me…Now’ (#38) charted higher.

And while the figures attached marked the lowest first-week sales of any Derulo studio effort yet (leading to his lowest premiere position on the all-genre chart to date), the 36-year-old was still able to celebrate a victory over the last week courtesy of the RIAA.

Thanks to the inclusion of smash hits like ‘Swalla,’ ‘Acapulco,’ ‘Slow Low,’ and more on the tracklist, Jason’s ‘King’ was certified Gold the same day it was released.

For context, Gold denotes sales equivalence of 500,000 in the United States while Platinum represents 1 million sold in the same territory.

Because the RIAA considers the sales performance of an album’s individual tracks when calculating its overall certification eligibility, the statuses of ‘Nu King’ housed tunes ‘Swalla’ (2x Platinum),  ‘Take You Dancing‘ (Platinum), and ‘Tip Toe‘ (Gold) helped hoist the February 16-released effort to Gold.

It should be noted that 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video streams equal 10 track sales which equals 1 album sale.

‘Nu King’ is Derulo’s fourth album to be certified Gold or higher following his eponymous debut (Platinum), ‘Future History‘ (Gold),’ and ‘Everything is 4’ (Gold).
