Beyonce Makes Hot 100 History as ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ Hits #1

Yee-haw!

Beyonce has already seen her latest hit, ‘Texas Hold ‘Em,‘ saddle up for a ride to the top of the UK charts, but now – as predicted by industry analysts the Killah B-produced jam has also galloped to the peak of the Stateside Hot 100.

Details inside.

After boasting an impressive #2 opening on last week’s all-genre chart (her highest solo debut to date) following a partial sales tracking period, the hoist of ‘Texas’ to #1 comes on the heels of its first full week of streaming, sales, and radio airplay.

Here are the numbers that powered the placement.

  • Streaming: 29 million U.S.-based streams
  • Sales: 29,000 digital downloads
  • Radio airplay: 16.1 million audience impressions

The 9th topper of her solo career, ‘Texas’ line dances into Billboard history books as the first Country song by an African American to ever land at the hitlist’s summit.

What’s more, she joins Taylor Swift as the only female acts this century to place a tune from the genre at #1 on the all-genre chart.

Among all women, Bey becomes only the fourth in the Hot 100’s 65-year history to own a #1 hit with a Country song following Jeannie C. Riley‘s ‘Harper Valley PTA’ (1968), Dolly Parton‘s ‘9 to 5’ (1981), Parton’s ‘Islands in the Stream’ (1983), Taylor Swift‘s ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ (2012), and Swift’s ‘All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)‘ (2021).

Uniquely, in a time when radio has seemingly opted out of playing female acts in a certain age bracket, Bey has broken the mold and stereotype by landing her second #1 hit over the age of 40 – a first in music history among women.

Women with Hot 100 #1 Hits Over 40

Mariah Carey – ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ (Age 54)

Tina Turner – ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’ (Age 44)

Cher – ‘Believe’ (Age 52)

Madonna – ‘Music’ (Age 42)

Sia – ‘Cheap Thrills’ (Age 40)

Dionne Warwick & Gladys Knight – ‘That’s What Friends are For’ (Age 45, Age 41)

Aretha Franklin – ‘I Knew You Were Waiting’ (Age 45)

Bette Midler – ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ (Age 43)

Patti LaBelle – ‘On My Own’ (Age 42)
