Teams are starting to make the necessary adjustments as the first quarterback domino fell during the summer. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport’s report on Friday, the New York Giants are now considering a number of veteran options, including Aaron Rodgers.
The New York Jets stated on February 13 that they were letting go of the four-time NFL MVP after two seasons, even though Rodgers is still on the team. A post-June 1 release date is anticipated for the relocation.
Rodgers isn’t necessarily leaving Gotham, though, because of that. The Giants, who only have Tommy DeVito as their quarterback right now, were interested in signing Matthew Stafford, but earlier Friday, it was revealed that Stafford will remain with the Los Angeles Rams.
Will Aaron Rodgers end up at Giants?
The Giants are suddenly changing course, perhaps aiming for Rodgers. In a much-discussed trade to the Jets prior to the 2023 season, the 41-year-old left the Green Bay Packers after 18 outstanding seasons.
But only four snaps into his rookie year, Rodgers tore his Achilles, ending the Rodgers-Jets union. In his second, and perhaps final, season with Gang Green, Rodgers appeared very different from the quarterback who had made the Pro Bowl only three years earlier.
During a 5-12 season that saw general manager Joe Douglas fired in the middle of the season and head coach Robert Saleh fired, he threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Is Rodgers, who came up with the term “JetLife” Stadium to describe the home field of the Jets and Giants, MetLife Stadium, switching from his Gang Green jersey to a Big Blue one?
As the offseason heats up, we’ll see.
