Critically acclaimed television drama ’61st Street’ is set to ride again thanks to news it’s been acquired by The CW just months after getting the axe at AMC.
Details inside.
Toplined by EMMY-winning veteran actor Courtney B. Vance as well as Academy Award and EMMY-nominated actress Aunjanue Ellis, ’61st Street’ took a dramatic look at the corruption of Chicago’s criminal justice system.
Although it earned no shortage of thumbs up from critics and viewers alike over its short tenure, the Michael B. Jordan-produced series – despite having already filmed its second season – was chopped by its network home AMC in January.
In a surprise announcement this week, however, The CW reports it will air season 1 of the beloved show in Fall 2023 with the unaired second season set to make its television debut in 2024. At writing, the network has not confirmed the tentative premiere date of the show’s sophomore run.
“There was a lot of love and hard work that went into making 61st Street,” stated Vance about the news. “I’m thrilled that The CW has enthusiastically given all 16 episodes of 61ST STREET a network home. With The CW, I’m confident that we will engage a universe of viewers who will celebrate the series with us. My cast, crew and I can’t wait!”
