Woody Johnson Reportedly Wanted Aaron Rodgers To Be Benched Following 10-9 Loss To The Broncos

So, apparently, Woody Johnson was not happy with Aaron Rodgers‘ performance after the 10-9 loss to the Broncos in week 4. Reports suggest that Johnson wanted Rodgers benched in favor of Tyrod Taylor following the disappointing game.

It seems like Johnson was unwilling to tolerate any more below-par performances from the star quarterback. Losing by such a narrow margin must have been a bitter pill for Johnson, and it appears he had enough.

According to Russini, Johnson asked Douglas, as well as Saleh and the rest of the coaching staff, to bench Rodgers following the Jets’ 10-9 loss to the Broncos in Week 4.

The report details of variety of decision that Johnson apparently made by himself, such as firing Saleh without anyone else’s input and signing players due to social media pressure. But the Rodgers anecdote is clearly the biggest nugget.

Per Russini’s report, Johnson believed Rodgers “was holding the team back,” which is why the Jets’ owner suggested that the team bench the veteran QB.

But the coaching staff apparently talked him out of the move by arguing that benching Rodgers would not go over well in the locker room. Some coaches even questioned if Johnson was being serious.

It remains to be seen if any action will be taken or if this was just a temporary frustration from the team owner. But one thing is for sure, Aaron Rodgers better step up his game if he wants to keep his starting position secure.
