Where Was ‘The Girlfriend’ Filmed? How To Tour The Show’s London And Spain Backdrops

Prime Video’s psychological thriller “The Girlfriend” was adapted from Michelle Frances’ 2018 bestseller and debuted on the streamer in September 2025. It instantly drew some attention for its gripping story and lavish visuals, but the cast is also quite impressive. The series features Olivia Cooke as Cherry, Robin Wright as Laura Sanderson and Laurie Davidson as Daniel. Alongside those impressive names are the likes of Tanya Moodie, Waleed Zuaiter and Shalom Brune-Franklin.
Beyond the suspenseful narrative of obsession and control, “The Girlfriend” filming locations set the scene for a significant show of class disparity, pushing the narrative forward. If viewers are wondering where the cast and crew set up shop, here’s what to know about the locations that added to the glittering promise of wealth and the dark truths hiding beneath it.
Where Is The House In ‘The Girlfriend’?
The Sanderson family home is where most of the drama in “The Girlfriend” unfolds. For fans interested in getting a feel for the life of luxury they saw on the screen, the house is located in St. John’s Wood, London. As Elle reports, the grand five-bedroom property is every bit as opulent as Laura Sanderson’s character would demand. It is complete with a basement swimming pool, very modern interiors and plenty of space which makes it feel much more like an estate than a simple residence.
Conveniently, the production team found this location when it was temporarily unoccupied, which made it the perfect pace to film at. As supervising location manager Ben Mangham shared with Country & Town House, “The [owner] was refurbishing her house – four floors, five bedrooms, basement swimming pool – in leafy St John’s Wood, and her house was empty and free for the whole summer, […] It is very rare that you come across a location like that – basically we got very lucky. Otherwise, production would have had to have built this fabulous set in a studio, because a lot of the show played out in the house.”
Those who pay a visit to this London filming location may recognize the area as the backdrop for many different scenes including Cherry’s awkward interactions with Daniel’s parents and messy confrontations between Cherry and Laura. While this area grounds much of the story in one central location, it also embodies Laura’s sophistication and the higher-than-thou mindset she embodies.
Planning Your Trip To Beautiful Marbella, Spain

Key Scenes: As Elle reports, Spain was a key filming location for “The Girlfriend.” Marbella in particular was significant, although scenes were also set in Málaga and Ronda.
Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit Málaga, Ronda and Marbella is generally during spring or fall. During these times, you can expect fewer crowds and more pleasant weather.
Transportation Options: Travelers can easily travel between Málaga, Ronda, and Marbella since the locations are around an hour apart. People can get around by bus using companies like Avanza, or alternatively, there are taxi and ride-sharing services. There is also the train, which will make the journey a bit easier.
For “The Girlfriend” sequences set abroad, the production moved to Villa Tramores in Benahavís, near Marbella, Spain. This villa is a sprawling property with a main house, guesthouse and plenty of amenities, but it is also impressive since it is part-owned by Princess Diana’s family. As reported by Elle, “Part of Princess Diana’s family owns the villa, and she has stayed many times. There were a lot of pictures of her in the house… They also have a lot of natural, beautiful areas leading up to the house. The actors felt at home because we spent nearly four weeks there.”
Some of the most charming features include sweeping terraces, swimming pools and a private heliport. The scenic beauty here is unmatched and gives viewers a glimpse into how the other half lives. This filming location brought some texture to the series, so characters were in vibrant environments while the simmering tensions rose. Beyond the villa, the crew shot around Málaga, Ronda and Marbella for a mix of urban streets, dramatic countryside and elegant old town settings.
Things to Do: The Paseo Maritimo De Marbella and Parque de la Alameda are two popular attractions. These locations are five minutes apart, too, so travelers can easily commute between them.
Where to Eat: Restaurante Garum Marbella and Restaurante Candela Marbella are two restaurants with great seafood and an elegant ambiance. They are around 10 minutes away from each other, with some delectable local flavors to offer.
