So apparently Jake Butt’s knee injury is the reason why college players are now wanting to skip bowl games. Can you blame them? I mean, the former player was a star tight end and a potential NFL player, but one accident on the field crushed his dreams. That’s got to be terrifying for these young players who have their whole future ahead of them.
Bowl games are supposed to be the highlight of a college football player’s career. It’s their chance to showcase their skills to scouts and potentially boost their draft stock. But with the risk of a devastating injury like Butt’s, it’s no wonder these players are hesitant to take the field, especially with Jake’s video telling everyone how his NFL dreams got shattered as a result of getting injured in a bowl game.
Butt suffered a pair of torn ACLs while playing at Michigan, including an injury suffered in his final college game in 2016. Those injuries were part of the reason why he fell to the Broncos in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft.
Butt spent his entire first NFL season on reserve while recovering in 2017 and then suffered another torn ACL just three games into the 2018 season. Complications from his third ACL injury forced him to also miss all of the 2019 season.
Butt was healthy for five games last year, catching two passes for five yards before suffering a hamstring injury. Denver did not re-sign Butt when he became a free agent in March, and he later signed with the Chicago Bears.
Butt’s career is now over after just eight appearances in four seasons. He caught 10 passes for 90 yards during his time with the Broncos.
So yeah, Jake Butt’s knee injury is a wake-up call for college players. It’s made them realize that their dreams can be shattered in an instant and that sometimes it’s better to err on the side of caution. And honestly, who can blame them?
