Dashcam footage of former NFL head coach Jack Del Rio’s drunk driving arrest has been released. So apparently, Del Rio was working as an advisor on the University of Wisconsin football staff when this whole incident went down.
According to reports, he allegedly struck a street sign and then crashed into a residential fence with his vehicle. Talk about a wild ride!
But here’s where it gets interesting. Del Rio decided to decline a breathalyzer test, which didn’t sit well with the arresting officer. So the officer told him that he would be seeking a warrant to get a blood test instead.
Now, throughout the video, you can see Del Rio groaning and complaining about some sort of pain. When the officer asked him what was wrong, he simply said;
“Can we just take a leak man?” Del Rio asked an arresting officer in the video, while in the back of the cop car. “Look at me. What the f–k?”
The officer responded, “I don’t have anywhere to take you right now, man.”
Del Rio continued to plead, asking “Can we please go somewhere to take a leak?”
To make matters worse, when they finally arrived at their destination, Del Rio had a hard time getting out of the police vehicle. He even said that his arm wasn’t working properly. The alcohol had taken its toll on him.
Wisconsin’s head coach Luke Fickell announced shortly after Del Rio’s arrest that he would be resigning his role as a senior advisor on the staff. I guess this is the least surprising part of the whole situation.
“He’s going to move forward and he’s going to resign and move on,” Fickell told reporters. “But it’s a tough situation, decisions that all of us have to be able to take full responsibility for. So, that’s what Jack will do and we’ll continue to move forward.
“We’ve got a few weeks left in the season, a lot of things to continue to fight for and nobody wants to take away from that, whether it’s me or Jack or anybody within our football program. We’ll move forward from that.”
So, there you have it, folks. Just another reminder that even well-known figures like Jack Del Rio can make some really bad decisions. Stay safe out there, and let’s hope Del Rio learns his lesson from this ordeal.
