Uncover Netflix’s ‘Black Rabbit’ Filming Locations Around New York City

If you’re looking for a new release to binge-watch, “Black Rabbit” is an eight-episode limited series on Netflix that just premiered on Sept. 18. It stars Jude Law as Jake Friedken, an ambitious restaurateur in New York City, and Jason Bateman as his estranged older brother, Vince. Their lives are thrown into chaos when Vince shows up on the run, pulling Jake and his trendy restaurant, also called “Black Rabbit,” into a high-stakes criminal world.

On-screen, NYC isn’t just a mindless backdrop – its dimly lit corners and fast-paced energy really set the scene for all the family drama. If you’re already hooked and want to see “Black Rabbit” filming locations for yourself, here are tips for navigating the Big Apple like a pro.

Plan Your Trip To New York City, As Showcased In Netflix’s ‘Black Rabbit’

Key Scenes: As Radio Times reports, the entire series came together in New York City, but many different boroughs were used. Most notably, key scenes were captured in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Although some interior scenes, including the “Black Rabbit” VIP lounge, were created in a soundstage, most filming was done on site.

Best Time to Visit: “Black Rabbit” was filmed between April and September in 2024, according to Radio Times. If you’re hoping to experience the same weather and atmosphere as the show, that’s the ideal time to plan your visit. However, for a more generally pleasant trip, many people recommend visiting between April and June. The weather during these months is typically mild and comfortable, with less rain to slow down your adventures.

Transportation Options: NYC is well known for its very reliable transportation options. The subway system, extensive bus network and commuter rail lines are some popular choices. Alternatively, travelers can take ferries, taxis or use ride share services.

The authentic vibe of “Black Rabbit” comes from its real-world filming locations. In the West Village and downtown Manhattan, production focused on the unique blend of both polished and gritty landscapes to really capture the duality of the brothers’ story. per Radio Times. Some other stand-outs include the former Bridge Cafe and the historic Russian and Turkish Baths building. The series showcases many popular exteriors of the city, according to Netflix

The real star of the show’s setting is the restaurant itself, Black Rabbit. Surprisingly, Jake’s restaurant was inspired by an abandoned building at 279 Water Street in the South Street Seaport area. This wooden frame building was once a saloon called The Hole in the Wall in the 1800s. Some distinct elements, like peeling wallpaper and exposed brickwork, were replicated to help give the restaurant a rock ‘n roll feel.

As co-creator Zach Baylin explained in conversation with Netflix, the vision was clear. “We always thought about Black Rabbit being a restaurant that had all the talent and taste and prestige of a Michelin-star restaurant, but without any of the trappings of being pretentious, or feeling like an uptown spot in any way… I think that it wants to feel emblematic of Jake and Vince, like it has a rock’n’roll DNA.” The Water Street location gave the show just that – an atmospheric setting reflecting both the potential and danger of its characters’ world.

Things to Do: Near the Water Street filming location, there are many things to do. The One World Observatory and Pier 17 are just a short walk away from each other. They offer visitors an opportunity to explore the area on foot and observe some stunning views.

Where to Eat: There is a plethora of dining options around Water Street, including some delectable and varied cultural foods. For a more upscale dining experience, Nobu Downtown is a great option. It is located on Broadway and around a 15-minute walk away. The Bill’s Bar & Burger joint is a more casual eatery that serves American cuisine, about 20 minutes away by foot.

Where to Stay: Near 279 Water Street there are both high-end and economic accommodations. The New Yorker Hotel by Lotte Hotels is a relatively affordable option for travelers to consider. Alternatively, the Hotel Indigo – NYC Downtown – Wall Street is a closer drive. It is a bit pricier, but is well worth the splurge.
