Here’s a question: Is pretty much everyone in the Republican Party participating in a secret MAGA raffle with various prizes being awarded to whoever can be the most publicly racist for no discernible reason whatsoever?

It’s bad enough that leading up to the midterm elections, GOP campaign rallies and Klan rallies have become virtually indistinguishable from each other, but many of these lame troglodytes also seem to get their kicks by posting random racism online, as if the only strategy for galvanizing conservative voters that they can think of involves being obnoxiously bigoted towards everyone else.

Take, for example, this post from President Donald Trump’s secretary of agriculture, Brooke Rollins, who decided to continue right-wingers’ annual tradition of celebrating Halloween the MAGA way: being demonstrably racist just to piss people off.

“Some costumes come with a price tag. This one comes with a prison sentence,” Rollins wrote in a caption accompanied by an image of Spirit Halloween costume packaging featuring some Black guy burning money while flipping the bird to the camera. “To anyone stealing from American taxpayers: The tricks are over. The treats are running out. Happy Halloween!”

Now, we know that Republicans spent significant time last year and this year lying about welfare fraud, just as they lie about election fraud, the effects of DEI, and kids getting sex changes at school. They also spent a lot of that time making Black people the AI-generated face of SNAP, despite the fact that a SNAP recipient is far more likely to be a white person, which didn’t stop white people from getting irrationally mad at Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders‘ ad featuring a lazy white guy who abuses his benefits.

And that’s clearly who Rollins was looking to appease by basically wearing blackface without wearing blackface.

And, see, this is why when Trump randomly invokes Black people at his MAGA Klan rallies, it’s always going to fall flat. He tells his white audience that we’re “crazy” if we support candidates like Abdul El-Sayed — and that we’re “crazy anyway,” regardless of how we vote — but it’s him and his Cabinet that keep reminding us that they hate Black history, Black causes, pro-Black diversity and, in general, Black people.

“He’s worse with Blacks than he is with Jews,” Trump said of El-Sayed at a rally over the weekend. “If you’re Black — if you’re African American — I said to a lot of my Black friends, ‘Let me ask you, would you prefer to be called African American or Black?’ And it’s pretty much a mix. In other words, you’re in trouble no matter what you do.”

Yeah — Trump and the GOP aren’t “in trouble” with Black people because they don’t know whether to refer to us as Black or African American; It’s because he’s racist, and so is everyone he has appointed to his administration.
