Not even 12 hours after the death of Rock Queen Tina Turner was announced Wednesday (May 24), fans of the legendary songstress have turned to streaming and digital download platforms for consolation.
Sales and streaming spikes are far from atypical after the reports of the passing of a beloved musician, but Turner’s catalog is seeing its domination extend beyond the U.S. into global territories with hits that are older than most of the acts she’s surpassing.
Bumping the likes of Taylor Swift, Drake, Morgan Wallen, Miley Cyrus, and a host of other current hitmakers aside in her skyrocket to the top of real-time sales tallies, look inside to see which of Tina’s tunes are gaining the most traction.
The Rock diva may already sit in record books as one of the best-selling female artists of all time thanks to shifting over 100 million records in her lifetime, but now her legendary stats will gain even more ground thanks to large spikes in digital activity.
As of time reported, peruse of the real-time U.S. iTunes sales chart reveals Tina taking up five of the top 12 positions alone. Entries include her classics ‘Proud Mary,’ ‘We Don’t Need Another Hero,’ ‘The Best,’ and ‘Better be Good to Me.’ The standout being her signature smash, ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It,’ which peaked at #1 on the U.S. Pop charts in 1984 and could re-enter the Hot 100 this year once all other elements are considered (i.e. increased radio airplay, boosts in streams, etc.).
Real-Time U.S. iTunes Chart
On the global front, ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’ sits in the top 5 of the real-time iTunes sales tallies of Canada, France, New Zealand, and Jordan while ‘The Best’ has taken the #1 spot in Australia, Canada, Portugal, Switzerland, Slovenia, and more.
The uptick is expected to extend well into the weekend as tributes from fans and celebrities alike continue to pour out on social media.
