‘The Sanctuary’: Isaiah Stewart on fatherhood, farm life and Memphis
Memphis Grizzlies big man Isaiah Stewart shows Andscape senior NBA writer Marc J. Spears around his farm in Temecula, California, for “The Sanctuary.” Stewart grows mangoes, papayas and passion fruit, helps with the work and spends time on the land with his wife and son.
Stewart explains how his Jamaican father’s garden inspired his interest in farming and why he wants to build something his family can carry forward. The visit also covers his move from the Detroit Pistons to Memphis, his morning basketball workouts and the peace he finds away from his reputation for toughness on the court.
