Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.
However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.
This week, we want to highlight cuts from Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Gracie Abrams, The Backfires, Babygirl, Blusher, and Ofenbach.
Join us inside…
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit – Death Wish
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are gearing up to have a big year. The group just announced that their new album ‘Weathervanes’ is set to drop on June 9 and they have shared the first taste of the project with the song ‘Death Wish.’ Featuring stripped-down production, the song unpacks the complicated feelings of loving someone who is struggling to love themselves. Another prolific showing from not of the greatest songwriters to ever live, ‘Death Wish’ continues to solidify Isbell’s legacy.

Gracie Abrams – Amelie
Dreams and reality become one on rising singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams’ latest single, ‘Amelie.’ Featuring gentle strums of an acoustic guitar, the song appears on her debut album ‘Good Riddance’ – out today. A truly poignant and emotional experience, ‘Amelie’ as well as its parent album proves that Abrams delivered the best debut album of the year so far.

The Backfires – Joyride
New York City-based rock band The Backfires have been making major waves in the music industry over the last couple of years and now they are back with their latest offering, ‘Joyride.’ A high-octane tune with sleek guitar solos and charismatic vocals, the boys offer up one of the freshest sounding rock songs in recent years.

Babygirl – Sore Eyes
Rising indie-pop group have announced their new EP ‘Be Still My Heart ‘ will hit shelves on April 14 and to kick off the era, they shared the song ‘Sore Eyes.’ An effervescent pop song that is complete with dreamy guitars and silky vocals, the group recalls the best aspects of ’90s alternative rock. Easily a group to watch, ‘Sore Eyes’ delivers on everything promised and is a must-hear tune.

Blusher – Dead End
Newly formed girl group Blusher has released its debut single on Atlantic, and it is everything and then some. A dreamy pop tune complete with danceable synths and earnest lyricism, Blusher has all the makings to be the next big girl group and ‘Dead End’ is the perfect showing as to why.

Ofenbach – Body Talk
Platinum-selling French DJ duo Ofenbach has teamed with rising star SVEA for ‘Body Talk.’ Complete with a rousing house beat, the song is destined for the dance floor. A hit the clubs desperately need, ‘Body Talk’ has hit written all over it.
