The Cowboys Get Joe Milton From the Patriots in a Stunning Trade

Joe Milton was acquired by the Dallas Cowboys from the New England Patriots in exchange for a fifth-round pick in an attempt to bolster their quarterback room.

Dallas also gets a seventh-round pick as part of the agreement. The Cowboys needed a trustworthy backup quarterback in Dak Prescott because Cooper Rush was now in Baltimore and Trey Lance was a free agent. Milton meets that need.

In 2024, Tennessee quarterback Milton, at 25 years old, was selected in the sixth round. In his one major game against Buffalo in Week 18, he completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a score, demonstrating his talent despite playing little.

Joe Milton’s high potential makes him an exciting prospect for the Cowboys

Despite his potential, Milton was left out when New England committed to second-year quarterback Drake Maye and signed veteran Josh Dobbs.

He now has an opportunity to establish himself in Dallas. Although Milton is anticipated to be Prescott’s backup for the time being, the Cowboys’ move to acquire him shows that they are taking a progressive stance.

He has a fascinating developmental component because of his arm strength and agility. Prescott’s position as the offense’s undisputed leader may be under more strain with Milton’s arrival, as Dallas is allegedly interested in developing a long-term quarterback replacement.
