The message, which SZA reposted on her story, highlighted Beyonce’s historic achievement as the second Black female artist to win Best Country Album of the Year at the GRAMMYs.

The post pointed out that if Beyonce had spent her time defending her right to sing country music, she wouldn’t have had the time to focus on her work and create the kind of culture-shifting music that has made her an icon.

“If Beyonce spent time in the comments defending her right to sing country, or any other, music she would have never became Beyonce.

As Toni Morrison said, “The very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work. It keeps you explaining, over and over again, your reason for being.”

After the CMA’s Beyonce didn’t spend her time online in the comments. She got to work. Now, she has made history as the first Black person to win Country Album of the Year.

Never forget, when excellence steps into the room mediocrity gets paranoid. Focus and keep going!”

SZA’s reposted message serves as a reminder of the importance of staying focused, even in the face of adversity with Queen Bey as an example.
