Saweetie on Not Releasing an Album Yet: “Nobody Was Caring About My Music”

Saweetie glows on the March 2024 cover of Allure Magazine.

But, beyond blazing with a stunning photo shoot, the femcee pairs the feature spread with a hyper-candid interview.

During the rawest corner of the conversation, the rapper waxed honest about the hold up with her long awaited album debut.

Indeed, since arriving on the scene, the starlet has enjoyed spot spells of success with hits such as ‘My Type’ and ‘Tap In.’

And yet her LP, previously titled ‘Pretty B*tch Music,’ has sat unreleased.

Now, Saweetie is opening up about why.

Full story below…

Revealing that she’s changed teams, the 30-year-old said of her previous camp:

“I just feel like nobody was caring about my music. To me, music is sacred. It’s coming from your spirit. You can’t just go finish an album in a week. That’s why it’s taking me so long. That’s why I haven’t dropped an album yet.”

Admitted that she has, at times, felt jaded by the critique that has greeted of her releases:

“I don’t mean to dampen the mood. But this is, realistically, how my career has been. We were constantly criticized for every drop. I was just very insecure. I’m a confident woman, but I was a very insecure artist.”

Fessing to fumbling some of her previous performances (which often would generate jabs at her), she added:

“I always bite off more than I can chew. I had to push myself,. I was trying to dance, rap, and sing at the same time. And I was like, Hold on, girl. Pump the brakes.”

In looking to up the ante, she went on a “work vacation” which functioned as a boot camp for performance.

However, she also says of “that’s not my [natural] strength and that’s okay because you’re supposed to turn your weaknesses into strengths.”

Your thoughts?
