Ryanair Flight In Spain With Severe Turbulence Results In Two Cabin Crew Needing ‘Medical Assistance’

Ryanair revealed that two of its flight attendants needed “medical assistance” following a flight with severe turbulence on September 21. FlightAware detailed that Ryanair Flight 4615 arrived on schedule at Palma de Mallorca, Spain’s Son Sant Joan Airport (PMI) at 9:36 p.m. local time. However, the airline disclosed to PEOPLE that the aircraft “experienced some air turbulence prior to landing.”

A Ryanair representative further said that “the captain called ahead for medical assistance for two cabin crew and the aircraft landed normally.”

The flight left on time from Vitoria Airport (VIT) in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain – on the country’s mainland – at 8:22 p.m. No passenger injuries were reported, and it’s unclear to what extent the cabin crew members were injured.

What Else Is There To Know About The Turbulence On Ryanair Flight 4615?

According to the U.S. Sun, shortly before landing, the aggressive turbulence caused one of the flight attendants to be launched toward the aircraft’s ceiling. Meanwhile, a service trolley reportedly collided with another cabin crew member, resulting in an injury.

There were reportedly around 180 passengers on board. The two Ryanair workers were reportedly conducting safety checks on the plane ahead of landing when the turbulence took place, caused by a storm front.

How Can Travelers Stay Safe When Flying?

Despite flight turbulence often making headlines, experts say flying is still the safest mode of transportation. The Federal Aviation Administration notes that turbulence – unexpected air movement – “can be created by many different conditions, including atmospheric pressure, jet streams, air around mountains, cold or warm weather fronts, or thunderstorms.”

For safety, the authority recommends keeping seatbelts fastened throughout the flight and following the cabin crew’s instructions at all times. Additionally, those on board should read and listen to any safety briefings and follow the rules for carry-on items.
