R.Kelly Rep Reacts to Singer’s Sex Abuse Charges Being Dropped in Chicago: “There’s No Real Sense of Relief”

R. Kelly is not only currently serving 30 years in prison for a conviction stemming from sex crimes, he’s also awaiting sentencing for another conviction on similar charges.

And while the GRAMMY winner (born Robert Kelly) was due to stand trial for a third set of sex abuse accusations in his hometown of Chicago, local prosecutors dropped a bombshell Monday (January 30) with the announcement the charges had been dropped.

For many of his supporters the news came as a small victory in the fight to clear his name.  However, the singer’s rep – attorney Jennifer Bonjean – isn’t exactly celebrating.

Read her statement on the matter inside.

Despite previously pleading with accusers to come forward to help her pursue sex abuse charges against Kelly (a call that ultimately collected four alleged victims willing to tell their stories on the stand), Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx recently announced she is no longer interested in pursuing the case because the singer’s other convictions make it likely he will never walk out of prison again.

The news comes as no reprieve for Robert, apparently, as Bonjean took to TMZ to share.

“There is no real sense of relief. He is still fighting for his life. He is facing decades in prison,” Jennifer said before adding Foxx made “the right move” with her decision.

As the 56-year-old awaits sentencing on February 23 in a Chicago federal court he’s also anticipating news on another sexual misconduct case that’s pending in Hennepin County, Minnesota.
