Madonna‘s iconic call to ‘strike a pose’ is etched in Pop culture history, a status underscored by its ongoing impact and influence on artists like Kylie Minogue, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, and others nearly 40 years after first dancing to airwaves.
A chart-topping force at the height of its popularity in 1990, the Shep Pettibone-produced jam not only reigned over the Hot 100 for 3 weeks at the time but went on to become one of Madge’s best-selling on the global front having raced past the 6 million sold mark as of time reported.
Nearly half of that figure is thanks to enduring consumption in the United States as recently revealed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Taking to press on Friday (June 28), the RIAA announced ‘Vogue’ had sashayed its way to the 3x Platinum marker – meaning it’s sold the equivalence of 3 million units in the U.S.
With the update the Queen of Pop’s ode to the Golden Age of Hollywood and the then-underground ballroom scene is crowned her overall highest-certified single in the country, surpassing the previous titleholder – the 2x Platinum 2008 smash hit ‘4 Minutes to Save the World’ – by 1 million.
The announcement comes after a slew of Madonna-flavored RIAA news over the month of June including reports that The Weeknd-led ‘Popular‘ – her highest Hot 100-charting hit since 2012 – became her first Platinum-certified hit released in the last 15 years.
All of the above have added to how she’s maintained the record for best-selling female artist in the history of recorded music.
