Well, good people, we have arrived. It’s election day, and many of us — those in that nation that are still tethered to reality, not the xenophobic, Islamophobic, transphobic hellscape MAGA is irrationally afraid of — are crossing our fingers, hoping for another blue wave. And it’s looking good for us, too. Early voting records are being broken across the country, the polls continue to lean in our favor, and Republicans are getting more and more desperate, which has resulted in an onslaught of culture war attacks on Democrats, because that’s all President Donald Trump and the GOP have in their depleted arsenal.

Meanwhile, things are looking more and more dismal for Republicans, who hope to hold onto their razor-thin congressional majority at a time when the massive MAGA support the party had in 2024 is crumbling in 2026.

According to Politico, Republicans’ 2024 coalition, which put Trump back in the Oval Office two years ago, is seeing key groups move away from the president and his administration, largely due to the Iran war and the sinking economy, which is largely attributed to that war. In fact, a new POLITICO Poll conducted by PF Global has indicated that roughly 9% of Trump 2024 voters plan to cast their ballot for a Democrat this year, while only about 2% of former Vice President Kamala Harris’ voters now plan to vote red.

Polling conducted by NBC, ABC and Pew Research has found similar results.

From Politico:

Underlying that shift is a lack of enthusiasm from two groups central to Trump’s win: Latinos and young people.

At the end of last year, 56% of Hispanic Trump voters identified as MAGA Republicans. As of this October, just 37% still do, revealing a frustration with the label that denotes some of the president’s most loyal supporters.

At the end of last year, 50% of young Trump voters ages 20 to 29 said they were certain to vote. As of this October, just 38% say this.

The scramble on the campaign trail reveals the extent of the concern. Speaker Mike Johnson is making one final campaign swing through South Texas on Tuesday, where Republicans have been racing to assuage Hispanic voters’ concerns over mass deportations and the economy. GOP officials are fretting about the impact of lingering inflation and high prices on working-class voters of all races, including young men they’re scared to death won’t show up to the polls in strong enough numbers.

They’re also pouring millions of last-minute dollars into a series of southern states with large Black populations whose voters appear to be surging to the polls in record numbers — like Mississippi, South Carolina and even Louisiana — to shore them up.

So, basically, Trump and the GOP have spent the last few years dehumanizing Black and brown immigrants and making them out to be the nation’s greatest threat, damning the very concept of diversity, and calling any Black person in a position of power a “DEI hire,” while moving to purge Black history from schools and federal institutions across the country, so students don’t learn how diversity initiatives became necessary in the first place. They’ve also made diluting Black and Latino voting power via gerrymandering a huge part of their political strategy. They’ve also made their campaign rallies virtually indistinguishable from Klan rallies, after the administration vowed to fight systemic anti-white racism that does not exist.

And now, Republicans are scratching their heads, wondering why the marginal gains they made with Black people, Hispanic people and young people have gone bye-bye, as they scramble to get that support back.

Now, before Democrats get too excited, they should consider that Trump and the GOP still have one thing working out in their favor: abject white stupidity.

If you’ve ever had the misfortune of watching canvassers interview Trump supporters at rallies and at the polls, you’ve gotten a reminder of how we got here in the first place.

They know all the buzzwords, such as socialism and communism, but they draw a big, fat MAGA blank every time they’re asked to define those terms. They’re also admitting outright that they get all their news from Fox News and other right-wing outlets, which would explain why they’re essentially taking everything the Trump administration reports at face value, ignoring fact-checkers at every turn, because, of course, facts are “fake news” as far as they’re all concerned.

So, yeah, hopefully, that blue wave is coming, but we can’t get too comfortable. Every vote counts.
