Popular Airline’s New AI Tool Can Help You Book Flights Based On Your Vacation Vibe

With American Airlines’ new Gen AI-powered tool, travelers can book flights based on the type of trip they want to experience, rather than the destinations they’ll be flying to and from. American Airlines has been rolling out a new way for its customers to find desired destinations.
When using the new feature, travelers can search for things like “I want to go on a seven-day trip with friends where we can explore during the day and enjoy ourselves during the night with good food.” According to USA TODAY, another example of a search travelers might make is “I want to take a beach vacation in February and spend less than $500 on flights.”
Prompted by the search, American Airlines’ Gen AI-powered tool will populate curated destination suggestions. The airline says that the recommendations will be “informed by real travel trends, customer preferences, and real-time fares available on American.” The carrier further explained that the new feature’s rollout is to make travel booking more personalized for its customers. In addition to “starting with an idea and ending with a boarding pass,” travelers may also be able to save time finding travel within their budget. Recommendations may provide you with a variety of flights from and to different destinations that are within your price range (if you specify that in your search). That way, you can see the options within American Airlines’ network that fit your budget.
If options suggested by the Gen AI-powered tool are outside the searcher’s stated price range, those recommendations will reportedly have an identifier that reads “over budget.”
What Else Is There To Know About American Airlines’ Gen AI-Powered Travel Tool?
USA Today reported on October 2 that American Airlines’ AI digital tool was available to 50% of people using the carrier’s site. Full availability to all online users is expected to roll out within several weeks, provided the current level of usage remains stable. The airline will also launch a version of the tool on its app.
American Airlines’ Managing Director of Customer Experience – Digital Transformation, Anshuman Singh, reportedly spoke about the tool during a September 30 virtual demonstration.
“People are more and more wanting to look for experiences when they travel,” he said. “We are trying to step our way into this and see the kinds of prompts people are asking for. We need data to be our guide every step of the way.”
“People are trying not just a classic (origin and destination) search, but on the experiences associated with their travel,” he added.
