Pete Rose Is Now Eligible to Enter the Hall of Fame After Being Removed From MLB’s Banned List

According to the Hall of Fame, Pete Rose will be eligible for enshrinement beginning in 2027. According to Jane Forbes Clark:

The late Pete Rose is no longer prohibited from playing baseball. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is taking the legendary Cincinnati Reds player and a number of other players off the league’s list of players who are forever ineligible, which might lead to his eventual induction into Cooperstown.

Manfred revealed that the athletes’ lifetime ban will be revoked once they pass away, which was stunning news to hear on Tuesday. When Rose was managing the Reds in 1989, he was banned for game betting.

The harsh penalty prevented him from ever being inducted into the Hall of Fame, even though he was the “Hit King” and among the best ever to set foot on a baseball diamond.

“Shoeless” Joe Jackson and his teammates, who famously rigged the 1919 World Series, are also impacted by the verdict. Rose stated prior to his death that he did not want the posthumous recognition, but the people at the Baseball Hall now have a choice to make.

On January 8, however, Rose’s family submitted a request to have him taken off of MLB’s list of ineligible players. President Donald Trump even intervened, stating:
