Quite a few teams are looking to get Jimmy Butler on their roster. According to reports, Butler mentioned three organizations he would prefer to join in the event of a transfer. The Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and Dallas Mavericks were among those teams. Butler appears to have narrowed in on one of those locations, according to recent sources.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Butler wants to join the Suns. He would be a member of Devin Booker and Kevin Durant’s All-Star team.
According to Fischer: “Word has permeated the league that Jimmy Butler hopes to be traded to Phoenix,”. “This is no exaggeration: Every high-ranking team official contacted by The Stein Line for this story shared their belief that the Suns are the destination Butler desires on the other side of his standoff with the Heat. You hear the same sentiment even from executives with teams that have been mentioned as potential Butler suitors.”
He further added: “The consistent word in circulation is that Butler wants to land in the desert not only to play alongside Kevin Durant and Devin Booker but because Suns owner Mat Ishbia has a proven willingness to splash out the lucrative contract extension he has been unable to secure from the Heat.”
What would it cost for the Suns to get Jimmy Butler?
After the organization punished the irate star for seven games, the Heat and Butler are still at odds. His remarks that his “joy” for playing basketball was destroyed in Miami led to his ban.
Following an offseason in which the Heat rejected his request for a contract extension, Butler made his trade request. Although Butler wants a long-term extension, the organization decided it would be hazardous to give him a longer contract given his age.
The Suns would probably have to cut ties with Bradley Beal in order to acquire Butler. At the moment, Butler earns $48.8 million, while Beal makes $50.2 million. With the two wages, a one-for-one swap may usually work.
Nonetheless, both teams are classified as tax apron teams. Given that Beal makes more money than Butler, the Heat would not be able to buy Beal’s contract outright for Butler. Typically, some financial flexibility may exist. With trade deadline on Feb 6th, Suns would need to hurry and add outgoing money.
