Missy Elliott has received an out of this world honor.
More details below…
Taking to press, NASA announced that its Deep Space Network has officially transmitted Elliott’s song ‘The Rain’ to Venus. As a result, the song has now become the first hip-hop song ever beamed into space by the government agency.
The transmission of the song took place last Friday from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, using the DSN’s powerful radio antennas.
The song traveled 158 million miles from its location to Venus and took 14 minutes at the speed of light to reach the planet.
It is just the second song ever to be beamed into space. Previously, ‘Across the Universe’ by the Beatles was transmitted in 2008.
