In one of the most surprising deals in basketball history, Luka Doncic‘s father has criticized the Dallas Mavericks front management for the manner they handled the point guard’s departure to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Despite leading his team to the 2023–24 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, the 25-year-old, who is considered one of the sport’s most promising prospects, missed a large portion of the current 2024–25 season due to injury.
Although they have not yet been verified, rumors suggest that the management lost faith in the European star when he reportedly gained weight. The star was shocked to learn that he would have to relocate to California.
Luka Doncic’s father blasts Mavericks
His father believes he should have received more from the American Airlines Center because the Slovenian was very active in his Dallas neighborhood and was a fan favorite due to his skill on the court and charitable work in the Texan city.

Arena Sport Slovenija was informed by Sasa Doncic: “I understand there comes a moment when you disagree with a certain philosophy,” Sasa Doncic told Arena Sport Slovenija. “You don’t like this or that player, all good, I get it.
“But I think that exactly this secrecy, or should I say from some individuals, maybe even hypocrisy, this hurts me personally.
“Because I think that Luka absolutely doesn’t deserve this. Giving the fact that at least, as I know, sacrificed himself enormously and even all the stories now that someone is releasing that he wants to apologize for the things that they’re doing.
“I feel like this is very unfair from some individuals because I know that Luka respected Dallas a lot. He respected the whole city, helped children.”
The Mavericks lost 144-101 to the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Ohio on February 2, their first game since Doncic’s departure.
