KLM Travelers Face Flight Disruptions This Week — What To Know About Rebooking, Refunds, And Updates

A ground staff strike and inclement weather are expected to cause flight disruptions for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines’ travelers this week.

According to the Netherlands-based airline, some of its flights “to, from, or via” nine airports in the northeast United States will be disrupted September 23. The carrier blamed “unfavorable weather forecasts” in the region for that day.

The airports where KLM travelers may have their travel arrangements impacted are Baltimore, MD (BWI); Boston, MA (BOS); Newark, NJ (EWR); New York, NY (JFK); New York, NY (LGA); Philadelphia, PA (PHL); Washington, D.C. (Dulles, IAD); Washington, D.C. (Reagan, DCA); and White Plains, NY (HPN).

KLM is providing its travelers the ability to rebook their departure before or on September 26. However, to rebook, travelers must remain in the same cabin class as their original ticket.

If they don’t want to rebook, KLM is offering travelers a refund. The carrier says, “If any of your flights were cancelled, or if your flight was delayed for at least three hours for flights in Europe or at least five hours for intercontinental flights, you can request a full refund of the ticket and extra options.”

What Else Should KLM Travelers Know About The September 2025 Flight Disruptions?

According to Travel And Tour World, KLM is canceling 119 flights scheduled September 24. Some of the carrier’s unionized ground staff are striking, causing the disruptions. KLM is reportedly rescheduling an additional 70 flights. The publication noted that the strike will occur between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

Per the publication, the KLM ground workers’ strike will mostly impact short-haul, regional flights in Europe. KLM advises its travelers who may be impacted to “regularly check updates” regarding their flight status.

“If your flight is cancelled or you miss a connecting flight due to this strike, we will automatically rebook you on the first available alternative flight. As this action may affect quite some passengers, rebooking may take longer than usual,” KLM added.
