Jerry Jones Declares That the Cowboys Are Working on “Substantial” Trades

Jerry Jones can’t keep himself out of the spotlight. As the NFL draft draws nearer, the Dallas Cowboys’ rather tranquil offseason may take a turn for the worse.

In an interview with reporters on Tuesday, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones stated that the organization is working on a few trades that he hopes will be completed around draft day.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris, Jones stated: “We’re looking at two things that could happen before or after the draft. Two pretty substantive trades. Been working on today,”

In free agency, Dallas wasn’t very active. They traded for former first-round picks LB Kenneth Murray Jr. and CB Kaiir Elam, and signed a few players, including RBs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, DE Dante Fowler Jr., and DT Solomon Thomas.

Could Jerry Jones make the Cowboys a challenger again?

Jones alluded to the two additional deals, but he gave no clue as to who the team would be interested in or whose teams they are negotiating with, suggesting that there is still more to come for America’s Team.

Jones also expressed his wish to reporters that the organization will select a player with “instant impact” in order to maximize its first-round pick at No. 12.

The team’s dismal offseason hasn’t exactly thrilled supporters, but Jones’ hyping of the impending transactions has raised expectations once more. Whatever the arrangements are, hopefully they will be sufficient to appease the fan base and position the Cowboys to challenge for a Super Bowl next season.
