Diddy’s Lawyer Claims ‘Making the Band’ Star Is an “Opportunist” for $60M Lawsuit Over Alleged Assault & “Inhumane” Treatment

Over the last year alone, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has landed atop headlines on an almost weekly basis for battling over 150 lawsuits from plaintiffs who claim to have suffered sexual, physical, and/or emotional abuse at his hands at some point over the last 40 years.

As he awaits a criminal trial for similar charges, the embattled mogul has learned even more accusers are coming forward with details of alleged unlawful encounters with him.

One of the most headline-grabbing of late comes from ‘Making the Band’ singer Sara Stokes who dropped jaws when she filed a $60 million lawsuit against Combs for interactions she claims were “inhumane” during her time at his Bad Boy record label.

Stokes (now known as Sara Rivers) rose to fame as a contestant on 2002’s ‘Making the Band’ and, later, as the lead vocalist of the short-lived group Da Band.

On Friday (February 28), she filed a 148-page lawsuit against Combs and his mother as well as Universal Music, MTV, and Bad Boy officials.

In her complaint, Rivers claims the mogul sexually harassed her, made her work under “inhumane” conditions, emotionally abused her by criticizing her appearance and mocking her bulimia, committed assault and battery, left her uncompensated for “manual labor,” and ultimately blackballed her attempts at having a solo music career.

“Defendant Diddy was often times yelling and ridiculing Plaintiff, especially during times Plaintiff sought him out to redress issues she was facing in the group,” the suit claims. “[Combs was also known to] make physical threats to group members” [and even] “threatened to eat the face of one person and kill another.”

As it relates to allegations of sexual harassment, Rivers claims other members of Da Band were not subjected to such treatment.

“[I] was the only individual who Defendant Diddy scrutinized in such a sexual and humiliating manner,” the suit reads.

Once word of Rivers’ accusations landed on the desk of Combs’ legal team, they quickly fired back.

“This is yet another example of false claims being filed against Mr. Combs. No matter how many lawsuits are filed, it won’t change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor,” his reps said in a statement. “We live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason. With the deadline for New York’s Gender-Motivated Violence Act expiring tomorrow, it’s clear that opportunists are rushing to file last-minute, meritless claims. Mr. Combs remains confident he will prevail in court.”
