Deebo Samuel of the 49ERS Responds to a Removed Post

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel defended his claim Tuesday, a day after he took to social media to blame his lack of opportunities for his performance slump.

Samuel posted the following on X on Monday afternoon: “Not struggling at all just not getting the ball!”

Later, he removed the post and replaced it with another in which he declared that he was “not hating on any of my teammates.”

Deebo Samuel was asked if he wanted to provide any further context for his posts as the Niners prepare for Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Samuel stated, “You read what you read.”  “[I’m] a little frustrated for sure.”

Is Deebo Samuel’s frustration valid?

He is frustrated since he hasn’t produced the kind of output he had since the beginning of his rookie year. Samuel has 97 yards from scrimmage on 17 touches over the last four games, averaging 5.7 yards per touch. Samuel finished with 21, 21, 20, and 35 yards from scrimmage against Seattle, Green Bay, Buffalo, and Chicago, respectively, and hasn’t surpassed that total in any of those four games.

Since a five-game run in 2019, this is the first time Samuel has not had at least 50 yards from scrimmage in four consecutive games. Samuel still recorded games of 44, 48, and 40 yards from scrimmage during the 2019 stretch, which lasted from Week 3 through Week 9, including the bye.

Kyle Shanahan, the Niners’ coach, stated on Tuesday that he would like Samuel to keep these kinds of grievances within the team.
