Queen of Funk Chaka Khan was on the receiving end of a royal backlash last week when headlines rang out with quotes from her controversial interview with ‘The Originals’ podcast.
As we reported here, the legendary diva slammed ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine’s polarizing “200 Greatest Singers Ever” list printed earlier this year for placing names like Mariah Carey, Adele, and Mary J. Blige above hers.
When not suggesting the mag’s editors need “hearing aids” for the rankings, Khan was reminiscing on the time Blige “f-cked up” her 1975 classic and signature song ‘Sweet Thing.’
As fans of Mary, Mariah, Adele, and even Beyonce continued to chime in to defend their fave from Chaka’s shocking commentary, the 69-year-old moseyed over to social media over the weekend to apologize for the hoopla.

Taking to Facebook on Sunday night (March 5), Khan issued her first official statement regarding the ongoing backlash.
“Recently, I was asked about a list of the ‘greatest singers of all time’ and instead of questioning the need for such a list, I was pitted against other artists and I took the bait,” she started. “As artists, we are unfairly put into ‘boxes’, ‘categories’ or on ‘lists.’ Being an artist or musician is not a competition. It’s a gift, for which I am truly grateful. It was not my intention to cause pain or upset anyone. To anyone that felt this way, I sincerely apologize.”
“Empowering all artists is most important because we truly are the architects of change…and change begins within the heart. I love you all and God bless,” she shared.
