‘Sweet Love’ was the last thing Anita Baker was receiving Wednesday night (May 10) as Babyface fans took to Twitter in droves to royally slam the Queen of Quiet Storm for what was believed to be her role in having him axed from their joint tour.
As the hoopla carried over into the next day, the ‘Whip Appeal‘ hitmaker quickly hopped to the defense of his touring mate to clear up the confusion.

Angry Babyface fans were stunned when the legendary singer (born Kenneth Edmonds) took to Instagram Wednesday night to reveal he would not be performing at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ despite being listed as the opening act on Baker’s critically acclaimed ‘Songstress Tour.’
“I was asked not to perform in order to give Ms. Baker her space and time to perform her show in its entirety,” he said – much to the chagrin of his supporters who believed the post suggested the two stars were at odds.
As if that wasn’t enough to upset concertgoers, Anita didn’t hit the stage until nearly 3 hours after her scheduled start time due to reported “technical issues.” The bad combo sent the 65-year-old diva’s name to trending status last night with some enraged attendees even demanding refunds from TicketMaster.
With the hoopla reaching a feverish pitch, Edmonds took to TMZ Thursday (May 11) to clear the air about his initial statement.
“I would never shade Anita Baker. I have too much love and respect for her, and I look forward to continuing the tour. I was just reiterating what the stage hand was saying following all of the tech difficulties,” he said to the news site.
Late Thursday afternoon, Baker responded to the hoopla by explaining what caused her delayed performance.
