According to authorities, a weekend altercation at a national cheering competition in Dallas sent thousands of teenagers and parents fleeing for their lives after the altercation triggered erroneous reports of an active shooter.
According to the Dallas Police Department on X, the mayhem started at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center at around 1 p.m. on Saturday while the National Cheerleaders Association was hosting a national championship.
The department stated: “The preliminary investigation determined a fight between two people led to multiple poles being knocked down, which caused a loud noise,”
“This noise contributed to panic inside the building, prompting people to rush outside in a stampede. “There were multiple life-threatening injuries during the chaos,” “No shooting occurred.”
However, video footage released by Fox affiliate KDFW-TV reveals that thousands of teen cheerleaders and their families fled into the streets in fear of a potential shooter.
While the nearby Omni Hotel was evacuated, the video shows Dallas police officers racing to the site.
Following the incident, the convention center was evacuated as a precaution, and the competition was halted for the day, according to a statement from Varsity Brands, the sponsor of NCA events.
