Anthony Joshua Could Face Deontay Wilder in a Fight

Tyson Fury’s retirement has prompted Anthony Joshua to prepare for a surprise bout against longtime adversary Deontay Wilder. Last month, Oleksandr Usyk defeated the Wythenshawe fighter for the second time in a row, reviving the long-overdue Battle of Britain with Fury.

However, Fury seems to hang up his gloves this week, putting an end to the domestic dispute for good. If a confrontation with the Gypsy King isn’t possible, Saudi leader Turki Alalshikh wants to see AJ finally make amends with his longtime enemy Wilder.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Alalshikh stated: “If you want something about the British markets, I want to see Joshua and Wilder now.

“If Tyson is not available why not Joshua and Wilder?”

When they controlled all the heavyweight marbles in 2018, Joshua and Wilder, who are 35 and 39 years old, respectively, were on track to lose. But when Wilder decided to take on Fury instead, whom he fought to a contentious draw, the bout was called off.

In December 2023, the adversaries were once again planning a two-fight series that would cost an incredible £100 million. However, it appeared that Wilder’s loss to a revitalized Joseph Parker was the last straw for the once-excited grudge fight.

In a do-or-die matchup with journeyman Curtis Harper in April, Wilder will try to salvage his career. Additionally, AJ promoter Eddie Hearn has disclosed that if the former unified heavyweight champion decides to come through Harper, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ may be an alternative.
